Announcer: | I’m with Christian Jannetta from the Commercial Litigation department at Cohen Highley Lawyers. What are employer’s obligations to their employees during these uncertain times? |
Christian Jannetta: | Every employer in Ontario is required to ensure their employees are working in a safe environment. Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, employers should make sure that they are taking reasonable steps to ensure the safety of their staff, customers and clients. |
Announcer: | Such as? |
Christian Jannetta: | Well, it would vary with the type of workplace. A retail operation might limit the number of customers allowed in the business at one time and to space out any lineups both inside the business and outside to allow for customers to properly socially distance themselves. In an office environment, the employer could reduce staff and space the workstations out for the same purpose. Other https://cohenhighley.com/wpbusinesses, to the extent possible, might allow some or all of their workers to work from home. It’s about what is reasonable and possible in the circumstances. |
Announcer: | Thanks Christian. This has been the Cohen Highley Legal Moment. |
