Announcer: | I’m with Christian Jannetta from the Commercial Litigation department at Cohen Highley Lawyers. What is the Canada Emergency Response Benefit? |
Christian Jannetta: | It’s a taxable benefit of $2,000.00 per month for up to four months, which the federal government has put in place to help workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. |
Announcer: | Who is eligible to receive it? |
Christian Jannetta: | There are many scenarios under which an individual would qualify, including anyone who must stop working due to COVID-19 and does not have access to paid leave or other income support. Anyone who is sick, quarantined or taking care of someone with COVID-19 and also parents who have to stay home with sick children or due to daycare or school closures. |
Announcer: | Who else qualifies? |
Christian Jannetta: | People who are still employed but are not being paid due to a lack of work are also eligible as well as self-employed and contract workers who wouldn’t normally qualify for employment insurance. |
Announcer: | Thanks Christian. This has been the Cohen Highley Legal Moment. |
