Announcer: And now the Cohen Highley Legal Moment on 980 CFPL
Announcer: I’m with Christian Jannetta from the Commercial Litigation department at Cohen Highley Lawyers.  What is the Canada Emergency Response Benefit?
Christian Jannetta: It’s a taxable benefit of $2,000.00 per month for up to four months, which the federal government has put in place to help workers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Announcer: Who is eligible to receive it?
Christian Jannetta: There are many scenarios under which an individual would qualify, including anyone who must stop working due to COVID-19 and does not have access to paid leave or other income support.  Anyone who is sick, quarantined or taking care of someone with COVID-19 and also parents who have to stay home with sick children or due to daycare or school closures.
Announcer: Who else qualifies?
Christian Jannetta: People who are still employed but are not being paid due to a lack of work are also eligible as well as self-employed and contract workers who wouldn’t normally qualify for employment insurance.
Announcer: Thanks Christian. This has been the Cohen Highley Legal Moment.
