What Condo Owners Should Know in Ontario

Stephanie Sutherland

ANNOUNCER: I’m with Stephanie Sutherland from Cohen Highley Lawyers. Anything condo owners should be aware of?

STEPHANIE: On October 1, 2023, the Condo act was updated to allow condo boards or property managers to send all notifications by email as opposed to how they were previously required to be sent, which was by either regular mail or through hand delivery usually.

ANNOUNCER: And this just started as of the first of this month?

STEPHANIE: Actually this started during COVID as a temporary measure, but as mentioned it has now been made a permanent opt. By some estimations, this was one of those rare benefits that came out of COVID since this is much easier, faster and cheaper for condominium corporations and simplifies things for the recipients as well. Really, the only thing condo owners should be made aware of is that this change has occurred and to continue expecting notifications via email going forward, so make sure to check your junk mail folder just in case.
