PARTNER

Legal Assistant: Jeana Jackman
(
, ext. 380)

Matt is the Co-Managing Partner of Cohen Highley and practises in civil litigation with an emphasis on personal injury. In his own words,

“When people are injured because of someone else, it turns their world upside down. It impacts their work, life, and family. The best part of my job is helping people get the treatment and support they need to help manage their new life.”

Matt has appeared before the Superior Court of Justice as well as administrative boards and tribunals, and the Provincial Offences Court; of these, Matt is most proud of his many successful trials opposing municipalities and insurance companies.

Born and raised in London, Ontario, Matt is very active in the community, he has served as a Trustee for the Thames Valley District School Board, on the Regional HIV/AIDS Connection Board, the Goodwill Industries Board, the Humane Society London and Middlesex Board, and the Middlesex-London Health Unit Board. Matt strongly feels that lawyers volunteering their time and knowledge to charities and nonprofits that can’t afford to have a lawyer on retainer, is vital to the betterment of our communities.

In 2016, Matt was named one of London’s Top 20 Under 40 by London Inc. (formerly Business London) Magazine; in 2017, Matt was awarded the prestigious Ken Sadler Award from Pride London for Outstanding Individual Contributions to the London Community; and in 2019, Matt was a Finalist for a Pillar Nonprofit Network Community Innovation Awards in the category of Community Leadership. In 2023, Matt was awarded the Rising Star Award by the Middlesex Law Association.

As an undergrad student, Matt was awarded the prestigious Loran National Scholarship and attended Western University. While at Western, Matt was elected to the University’s Board of Governors and Senate and volunteered in Tanzania doing HIV relief work. Matt graduated with distinction as a Weston Loran Scholar, with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2009.  In 2012 Matt graduated with his Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa.

As Co-Managing Partner, Matt is an integral part of the culture inside Cohen Highley. Matt says, “the firm is filled with people who have become not just friends, but family to me. We support each other and are thrilled with each other’s successes. We all work hard and understand that working with people you enjoy makes it all possible.”
