ANNOUNCER: I’m here with Brian Phillips, a partner at Cohen Highley Lawyers. You mentioned that having a good will may not be enough. What else is needed?
BRIAN: Well, upon a death, executors have to call in the assets of the estate and settle its debts, so that a family knows where to look. We recommend clients prepare a breakdown of assets, debts and contact information for all of them.
ANNOUNCER: And what about digitally?
BRIAN: So many of our daily activities occur online now. Think of all the online accounts be they financial, social or email that will need to be wound up after our death. Leaving another breakdown of digital usernames, logins and passwords for your survivors would make their lives so much easier.
ANNOUNCER: No question. An available access list for your digital world would definitely simplify things for your survivors.
BRIAN: Absolutely. And don’t forget to update it every few months.
