ANNCR: I’m with Megan Alexander, a paralegal with Cohen Highley. Megan, I understand there have been some changes to the Ontario Small Claims Court, can you tell me what those are?

Megan: As of June 1st, 2025, new trial management processes and updated hearing procedures are among the changes that have taken effect, but the biggest change is happening in October of this year, when the claims limit increases to $50,000. Currently, one can bring an action in the Small Claims Court for up to $35,000 only.

ANNCR: Why are these changes important?

Megan: With higher monetary limits and more streamlined procedures, individuals and businesses can resolve larger disputes more affordably and efficiently. These changes enhance access to justice and provide this forum with more effective tools for everyday legal issues.

ANNCR: Thank you, Megan. This has been your Cohen Highley Legal Minute.
