ANNOUNCER: I’m with Laura Smith from Cohen Highley. Laura, if a parent wants to travel outside of the country with their children without the other parent, what paperwork do they need to prepare?
LAURA: For separated and non separated parents, it’s best practice to fill out a travel consent form available at the Canadian Government website. Have the form witnessed by a lawyer if you’re crossing an international border without the other parent.
LAURA: What if you have a court order?
ANNOUNCER: If the court order permits you to travel without a travel consent form, you’d have to bring that court order that outlines you’re allowed to cross without consent.
ANNOUNCER: Is there anything else parents should be aware of?
LAURA: Discretion always lies with the border agents of the country you’re trying to enter as to whether you’re allowed in with your child.
